Maria, also known as
Gracie Jane, faced a tough life. When she and her partner Brandi, so-called
Jenna Gargles, arrived at a modest house, Maria felt overwhelming fear. After a long absence from home, she finds herself summoned back due to the passing of her stepmother.
A family lawyer requires her presence for the reading of the will. This task brings Maria face to face with her estranged stepbrother, Adam, and she is not prepared for the encounter. When Adam opens the door, his hostility towards Maria is unmistakable.
Despite his attempt to dismiss them, Brandi defends Maria vehemently forcing Adam to admit them. Though difficult to be there, Adam has no need to add to the tension. Under the quiet atmosphere inside, surrounded by lingering tensions and a deep rift between the step siblings, their past hurts are evident.
It's clear betrayal has impacted them both, particularly in relation to family matters. Maria argues that Adams' parents have been unkind to her due to her identity, but Adam denies these allegations. While he attempts to protect his family's reputation, Maria struggles to empathize from her standpoint, articulating the resolution and happiness that accepting other people and self has brought her due to similarities with Brandi.
Gradually, as they unpack issues of the past misunderstandings over time grievances felt by one another find resolution. Adam's realization dawns on his perception, revealing his family's true nature and his prejudices. As everything comes to light, the burning question emerges: Can they heal the broken bonds, bury the hatchet or will the scars be left unresolved?.
