Still under the illusion that they are part of a television competition, Brad (played by Michael Del Ray) makes an effort to acquaint himself with the reserved man seated across from him during the enigmatic banquet. Although the man remains silent, his name tag identifies him as Scott (played by
Dante Colle). As the initial course is presented, the Master of Ceremonies places a metallic briefcase at the far end of the dining table.
Known for his rambunctious nature, Kenny (portrayed by Dakota Payne) tries to pry open the case. Brad intervenes, discouraging cheating and expressing a desire to pursue things fairly in the hopes of claiming a reward together. Reluctantly, Kenny complies and settles back down, recounting illicit escapades with Sebastian (portrayed by Chris Damned) that they had when they clandestinely indulged in intimate acts.
Dignified Toby expresses repugnance towards Kenny and Sebastian's actions, prompting him to scrutinize Sebastian's connection with their alleged host, James (embodied by
Johnny Ford). Kenny reveals the details of Sebastian's occupation, leading Toby to hastily pass judgment on Sebastian, advising him to seek redemption. Inquisitive about the mysterious circumstances, Brad queries Sebastian on any cues he may have observed during his last encounter with James.
Though there were telltale signs, Sebastian decides to omit details from their peculiar final meeting, casually remarking on James' eccentricities. The guests continue to share personal links to James - from Brad reminiscing about their maiden rendezvous, to Toby recounting his enduring six-year relationship with him. Just as Brad turns his questioning to Robert, dinner is served, providing a welcomed distraction.
Interrupting, Kenny interjects with his salacious anecdote involving James, much to Toby's chagrin, for he refrains from revisiting inordinate energy on his former lover's illicit liaison. Toby recalls his devout start with James, nurtured in the sanctity of marriage - at least on Toby's part. Memories resurface, implicating James' infidelity as captured in a flashback indicated by his liaison with their friend, Robert (portrayed by
Jim Fitt), during Toby's absence.
Select realities are politely swept under the rug. Brad, intent on unraveling Scott's reticence, faces a rather acerbic reception causing tension. Attempting to defuse the escalating situation, Brad prompts Scott to open up, unsettling the table with Scott's spontaneous expletives denouncing James as a 'depraved imbecile'.
Scott cogently relays their previous affiliation and the unfortunate turn their relations took, throwing guests into visible disarray. Brad, proximal to losing composure, queries a distorted narrative as he vocally protests against unwarranted trials, voicing his disillusionment with this unforeseen scenario. Just as he signals his intent to exit, the Master of Ceremonies ushers him back to his place, hinting at the last course trigging a wave of apprehension among the machinated soirée.
As James sets foot in the room gloomily, aided by a walking cane, evidently impaired, he settles at the grandeur end of the feast and addresses attendees concealing unstated intentions as bewilderment thickens in the tantalizingly unsettling environment.
