Kyle sits on the bed, thumbing through photos like a guy who lost his favorite toy. Then Trish steps out of the bathroom and—boom—he loses it. Makeup’s off, dress is wrong, and he starts barking orders like a coach mid-tantrum. Trish plants her hands on her hips, eyes flashing. “Why the hell do I have to dress like somebody else, and who the fuck am I supposed to be?” Kyle cools down just enough to admit she’s a dead ringer for his wife. He misses his girl so bad the ache leaks out every time he talks. He wants Trish to nail every detail so the illusion sticks and he can pretend, for one perfect hour, that his wife never left. Get it right and Trish walks away rich; get it wrong and the game’s over before it starts. Trish studies him, doubtful. Obsessions like his rarely come with an off-switch.
