Maggie just got home for summer break and her birthday bash is happening tonight. She keeps telling everyone she’s straight, but that’s bullshit—she’s head-over-heels for Morgan and already sweating it. Her secret fuckbuddy Jemma swings by first, bends her over the couch, and works her out so good she can finally breathe. Once Maggie’s legs stop shaking, Jemma helps her string the lights and tape the streamers, then dips before the guests show up so nobody gets the wrong idea. Maggie’s older sister Virginia strolls in, clocks the vibe, and teases her about Morgan like she already knows. The second Jemma’s gone, Lea and Rachel walk through the door. Maggie’s hugging old friends when the front door opens again—Morgans’s there, and she brought a girlfriend. Name’s Kate. Maggie’s smile cracks, but she forces it back on. Spin the Bottle starts. Every wet smack of lips drives the knife deeper, so Maggie mumbles an excuse and bolts to her room. Fingers working fast, she tries to fuck the ache away, but it doesn’t stick. She slips back just in time to watch Lea disappear with Virginia for way more than a kiss. The bottle keeps spinning, and Maggie’s chest gets tighter. When the pizza guy drops the boxes and cracks a joke about “the birthday girl’s girlfriend,” the whole room laughs—except Maggie. She forces a grin, heart pounding, wondering if anything tonight can still turn around.
